This photo was taken at Ometepe Island in the middle of Lake Managua in Nicaragua during my 343 day, 16,000+ mile RV trip through Mexico and Central America in 2004. We were ferry walk-on passengers for a day visit to the island. An active volcano steams about three miles distant…

This photo is of an active volcano at Masaya National Volcano Park in Nicaragua during my 343 day, 16,000+ mile RV trip through Mexico and Central America in 2004. My Bronco is the dark gray vehicle parked at the edge of the crater. We were required to park in a direction facing the park exit in case the volcano erupted…makes sense to me!

Miami is a small, remote village reached only by an eight-mile, four-wheel drive on a soft sand narrow road. With no running water or electricity, life is slow here. It was the most remote, away from the world, village I visited during my trip…
